Alcohol and Weddings?

Maryland Gareau: Both reasons, to celebrate with friends and to have drinks. It is also cultural, my husband and I are from eastern European heritage where nobody would even think of havin a wedding without enough drinks for everyone to get wasted. In old days, weddings would last at least 3 days and you weren't allowed to leave or people would come to your home and drag you back to party.Families would save for years to be able to throw a big wedding for their children.I remember when I was 4, my parents took us all to a huge German wedding, my dad got so drunk that when he danced with the bride, he stepped on her dress and ripped the gown.my mom was so pissed at him....Show more

Shena Etulain: The happy medium is to have a toast, enough to provide refreshment but not so much that people get sozzled.Alcohol is cheap and freely available anyway so people don't need the excuse of a wedding. If someone is going to drink, they will do it anyway.

Chastity Doderer: t! hey should attend to see the marriage if some come only for the wine it would be better not to have any.although my parents were tea total they provided wine at my reception unfortunately most of my husbands family got drunk it was not a good thing.

Gertrude Darke: Of course people would attend. I had a huge wedding (350+ people), and we had no alcohol at our wedding because of religous beliefs... Well, the people still came, and I know that most of our family, friends, acquantainces know our position on alcohol, so its not like they were expecting alcohol to be at our wedding! And, if someone didn't know, they certainly didn't leave when they realized there was no alcohol.I would obviously still attend a no-alcohol wedding....Show more

Lorine Helwick: I would attend. Some attend to be a part of the special moment, some for the food, some for the alcohol and party atmosphere, some for the cake.
