What color palette can I choose to lessen the presence of the dark green couch in the living room?

Ramon Dahlheimer: Forest green is no problem....while it may look overpowering to you right now, it is great with Scotch plaid, pretty at Christmas time, will give a very rustic, outdoorsy look, sets off bouquets of flowers or bowls of flowering bulbs.....If you like a traditional look.... I would get ** a pair of dark wood lamp tables for either end of the couch, large enough to hold a lamp, a small bouquet of flowers, a book or two....** a lamp on each table with off-white silk shades** a small coffee table, dark wood** two club chairs to the front of the tables at an angle to create a 'talk' area ... upholstered in an off-white fabric to match the curtains:::::: ** off-white tweedy curtains, with an under-layer of gauze curtains ** for a rug: either with a design, or a lot of texture like an off white tweed ** a couple of mirrors with gold framesYou can start with a simple a color scheme and if you decide later to put another color, I would change the col! or of the lampshades, put a few pillows on the sofa, introduce a colored ottoman near the coffee table if you are short of seating.... this is a very traditional look, but keeping the feeling light by limiting the color in the room to the one dark green piece, the dark brown wooden furniture, and the lighter fabrics for the chairs, curtains, and the light rug; hope the walls are off-white too, but they could be the palest shade ever of pastel pink, which would give a nice warmth:::::if you want more color later, you could always change the color of the lampshades, introduce patterend fabrics for extra cusions on the sofa, make an ottoman a light pink or peach silk, get a second set of different curtains to hang up, have the others cleaned and put away to use again later For a breezier look, you could accessorize the entire room with wicker / cane furniture which is light in color, has great options for fabrics on the cushions. Very informal in feeling, i! t is expensive, but you did not mention a ceiling to your bud! get !! xxx...Show more

Esteban Faggett: play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:http://www.sherwin.com/visualizer/I think "daffodil" (# 6901) might be a great choice. You can take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:http://www.roomvues.com/You can get color suggestions & for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like....Show more

Delora Struzzi: do the windows in a white sheer curtain.and do the throw pillows in a soft neutral color just go with 2 colors both light for the rest of the room you can go with a lighter shade of green.what color are the walls.you can go ! with that color.
