Which car would be more economical in terms of mileage and maintenance - fiesta diesel or petrol?

Donovan Stallons: go with Fiesta diesel. The newer diesel engines are not as the older ones that required lots of maintenence and are more efficient than their petrol counterparts. Also diesel is much cheaper than petrol. If u want features and the diesel together go for the Swift Diesel. It has a revolutionary engine with superb perfornance and great efficiency. Also check out the Swift Dzire and Hyundai Verna

Darren Heling: I too wish there was a clear winner in the diesel vs. petrol question.You get better mileage from diesel, but the fuel is more expensive.Routine maintenance is more expensive with a diesel engine, but you don't have to do it as often.Diesel fuel is available from renewable resources, but it does not burn as cleanly so produces more greenhouse gasses.Sigh.... it's a toss up!...Show more

Rebbecca Sorkin: Diesel is better. Most modern diesel cars like VW are way better than they used to be. Quieter, and more powerf! ul. My friend has a big heavy Mercedes diesel and he goes much farther than a gasoline engine car of the same size. As long as you do the regular maint on a diesel, there's no reason for it not to run forever. Just make sure to change all filters regularly and dont contaminate the fuel with water and change the oil when you should. The only bad part about diesel engines is that IF they need repairs it can be more expensive. Injector pumps cost quite a lot if one were to fail. IMO, I think Deisels are more troublefree....Show more
