Lashawn Zabarkes: Think about it the other way. What is the defining characteristic of the Neolithic period? The answer is agriculture and pastoralism, so that means farms. The pre-neolithic landscape would be a natural landscape without farms or herds of domestic beasts. Most palaeolithic people were nomadic whereas Neolithic people formed settlements.
