Leif Andreason: It probably helps, but it's probably not a requirement. I have several friends who were graduate assistant teachers who had no teaching experience or certificate. Your other qualifications look great, so I would think you are qualified for the assistantship. These assistantships are meant to learn from, so it would be odd to require prior teaching experience.
Avis Brantner: No, they won't expect you to have teaching e! xperience - these graduate TAs are usually a grad students first chance to teach.
Frank Gazaway: No, it is irrelevant. TAships are given as a form of scholarship at the graduate level. They are also your apprenticeship for being a professor one day.
